Who are the BEST Australian DJs!? TOP 20 List

A number of Australian DJs are currently making waves all across the globe. Having a prominent influence on the DJ scene as well as re-defining and re-imagining entire genres. With a thriving DJ and club scene and several homegrown successes, it’s hard to crown the best Australian DJs, but we’ve done our best! Read on below and find out who we named in the Top 20 Australian DJs of all time!

Timmy Trumpet


An Australian DJ based out of Sydney; Timmy Trumpet began his DJ Career solely as a trumpet player alongside duo The Stafford Brothers. From there, Timmy Trumpet got his first set of DJ decks and taught himself how to DJ; playing solo shows and incorporating his trumpet into his sets. Given that he bases his entire persona and DJ profile around his playing of the trumpet, you’d be forgiven if you thought Timmy Trumpet’s success would quickly dissipate. However, it simply hasn’t been the case. He’s managed to evolve both as a musician and DJ, all while building himself a dedicated global fanbase in the process. Going from the local stages, to killing it at Future music festival, and then, in 2017 making his main stage debut at one of the biggest music festivals in the world, Tomorrowland! What’s more, his DJ set is currently the most-streamed video of all time on Tomorrowland’s official YouTube channel. As of February 2020, it’s amassed over 23 million views!
Timmy Trumpet is currently ranked the number 13 DJ in the world, according to the DJ Mag Top 100.

Most Known For

It was Timmy Trumpets’ 12th single release, that garnered his international attention and success. A collaboration with New Zealand rapper Savage, “Freaks” charted highly in a number of countries worldwide. As well as selling over a million copies and being streamed over 500 million times!

Alison Wonderland

A pun on the novel, Alice In Wonderland, Alison Wonderland is renowned for bringing some of the best party and dance DJ sets that Australia and the world have seen. First garnering attention in 2012 with a remix to Sam Sparro’s “I Wish I Never Met You”, it wasn’t until 2013 when we saw the release of her first single “Get Ready”.
Since then, she’s consistently released new music and established herself as one of the top DJ’s in the world; coming in at number 44 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs!

Tearing up the Australian scene, she’s hit the main stage at a number of popular music festivals. Including Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, Stereosonic, Parklife, Good Vibrations, Future Music Festival, and many more. On top of that, she’s performed at the official Grammy’s afterparty in LA, as well as all throughout Ibizas iconic club scene, and Tomorrowland.

Most Known For

In 2014, Alison Wonderland released her track “I Want U”, which hit the charts in Australia and won her first Aria Platinum title. Following that, her 2018 single “Church” also went platinum and charted in Australia, New Zealand, and the US.

Will Sparks


Dropping out of school to pursue a music career, Will Sparks quickly moved from the local stages of Melbourne to one of the hottest DJs and producers worldwide. Pioneering the now globally recognized “Melbourne Sound” with his genre-defining track “Ah Yeah!”; Will Sparks hit #3 on the Beatport overall charts in 2012. Since then, Sparks has accumulated an inspiring catalog of hits. As well as a number of signature remixes of popular artists including Major Lazer, Robin Thicke, and The Chainsmokers. As a result, Will Sparks has earned himself multiple Gold and Platinum records. While also sitting at #57 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list!. A prolific performer, Sparks is said to play over 300 shows every year, showing his face across all corners of the globe. Including residencies across the most famous nightclubs in Mykonos, Las Vegas, and Sydney. As well as headlining the main stages at festivals such as Tomorrowland, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Ultra Music Festival.

Without a doubt, it was Will Sparks 2012 release of Ah Yeah, that set the tone for his career. As a result of its success, the single is widely attributed to being a main driver of Melbourne Sound. A genre that has since garnered worldwide appreciation.

Fisher

Starting his career out as a pro surfer, Fisher began his career in music as one half of the duo Cut Snake; a group formed with fellow surfer Sedz. Fisher then went on to begin producing house music, releasing his debut single “Ya Kidding” in 2017. Quietly gaining momentum, it was his 2018 release of Losing It that really put his name on the map. As a result, Losing It reached #1 on the ARIA Club Tracks chart and hit #1 on the US Dance Club Songs Charts. As well as charting on a number of international record charts, winning a Grammy nomination, and coming in at #2 on Australia’s Triple J Hottest 100.

From there, 2019 saw Fisher skyrocket in popularity, primarily running off the success of Losing It. Breaking into #63 as a first-timer on the DJ Mag Top 100, as well as headlining a number of festivals including Groovin’ The Moo, Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, Tomorrowland, and Sunset Music Festival.

Flume is an Australian DJ/Producer who first hit the airwaves with one of his singles uploaded to Triple J’s Unearthed back in 2011. Before going onto release his debut, self-titled album in 2012 that made number two on the ARIA Album Charts. The album was also well-received in the US and landed him four placings on 2013’s Triple J Hottest 100.
Since then, Flume has continued to rise in popularity, and earn himself multiple awards. As well as hit the main stages in some of the world’s biggest music festivals including Lollapalooza, Burning Man, and South By South West.

Flume is most known for his hit single “Never Be Like You”. A song that topped the charts in Australia and won himself an ARIA for best pop release in 2016.

Nervo

NERVO is an Australian DJ duo made up of two twin sisters. The duo first garnered attention after signing with Sony when they were 18. Before later signing with Fredrik Olsson’s Swedish company, leading to them co-writing the Grammy Award-winning single “When Love Takes Over”. Renowned for being the highest-paid women DJs, NERVO has hit the main stages at hundreds of festivals worldwide, including Tomorrowland. As well as regularly playing at the biggest clubs in Ibiza and Las Vegas. Since 2012, NERVO has consistently charted in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs; coming in at number 24 in the latest 2019 chart.

Most Known For

Nervo are perhaps known for their 2018 collaboration with Alisa Ueno, Sofi Tukker and The Knocks on “Best Friend”. A song that gave the twins their first #1 Billboards chart! As well as their part in writing “When Love Takes Over”.


Peking Duk

Peking Duck Australian Djs

Peking Duck is an Australian DJ/Producer duo based out of Canberra. They first attracted attention in 2012 thanks to their Passion Pit bootleg remix. Since then, their biggest hit has been “High”. A song that reached #5 on the ARIA Singles Chart and even hit triple platinum! A constant headliner here in Australia, Peking Duck have shared the main stage at festivals including Falls Festival, Spilt Milk, Splendour In The Grass, and Big Day Out.

Worth noting, in 2015, a Peking Duck fan managed to gain access to the duos backstage area by editing the Peking Duck Wikipedia page and listing himself as a family member!

Most Known For

Renowned for a number of hits, Peking Duk’s High remains their highest charting song. As well as being their most-streamed song, amassing over 45 million plays on Spotify alone.

Dirty South

Born in Serbia before moving to Melbourne at a young age, Dirty South began his Australian DJ career at the age of 13. Mixing on tape decks, he began experimenting with bootlegs and mashups; before releasing his first original production in 2004. Since then, the Australian DJ has won several awards, including; 2 ARIA nominations, Most Popular Producer 2007, and multiple releases that made number one on the club charts. Most notably, up until last year, he had ranked in the DJ Mag Top 100 every year since 2007.

In 2012, Dirty South teamed up with Alesso to release the single “City of Dreams” with vocals from Ruben Haze. Reaching number 1 on the Beatport Top 100 within the first week of release. Since then, the single has become his most streamed song!

Beginning their claim to fame with a weekly national radio segment, Mashd n Kutcher has become one of the most prominent Australian DJ duos in recent years. Being voted Australia’s #1 DJ duo (inthemix 2015), as well as producing multiple platinum and gold-selling records. Not only has Mashd n Kutcher amassed a massive following within Australia. They’re also constantly selling out shows all over the world whether in Asia, New Zealand, America, or Europe.

Australian DJs SCNDL

Australian DJ powerhouse duo SCNDL is renowned for consistent dance floor destruction and is synonymous with dance music. Starting out in the local Melbourne club scene, SCNDL has now toured in just about every country in the world. Landing the number one spot on the ARIA dance charts, while sharing the stage with names such as Tiesto, Diplo, Carnage, Dimitri Vegas, Steve Aoki and more! He’s also regularly ranked among the top-selling Beatport artists both in Australia and worldwide. As well as collaborating with fellow big stage DJ’s such as Timmy Trumpet, Deorro, Ben Nicky, and Will Sparks.

As a result, fans are 7 times more likely to engage with her content than that of anyone else. Regularly appearing on the main stages at the biggest festivals in clubs in Australia and the world. Tigerlily is most known for electric persona as one of Australias best young female DJs. As well as her eccentric hair colour that’s often seen either blue or pink!


Stafford Brothers


The Stafford Brothers consist of 2 Australian DJs from the Gold Coast. The pair made a name for themselves on the Australian DJ scene with their combination of house, electro, and progressive house music. Then, Stafford Brothers became the first electronic music act to sign to US label Cash Money Records. While also going on to produce two seasons of a reality TV show that followed their day-to-day lives. They can also be accredited to helping launch the career of Timmy Trumpet, as he regularly acted as the trumpet player for the duo in the early stages of his career.

Today, Stafford Brothers reside in LA and are spending most of their time touring around the US!

Starting her career on the local club circuit, Havana Brown has gone on to sign major record deals and tour the world! Needing no introduction, Nino Brown is Australia’s #1 Urban DJ. Not only has he gained notoriety in Australia, he regularly tours around South East Asia. Not to mention, he’s also shared the stage with artists including Jay-Z, Rhianna, T-Pain, Chris Brown, Nelly, Pitbull, and so many more. So it’s not hard to see why he deserves a place on this list! Gaining popularity due to his impressive DJ skills, Nino Brown was originally signed to Universal Music. This lead to him creating the “Blazin'” mixtape series; a series that went on to become the biggest urban music compilation in the country. He’s also the first Australian DJ to collaborate with the renowned brand New Era; releasing a limited edition Nino Brown labeled cap.

Australian DJ Duo, New World Scene first made waves with their smash single “Flute”. A song that made the airwaves on radio stations all over the world. As well as garnered co-signs from industry heavyweights such as Avicii, Tiesto, Calvin Harris, and David Guetta. Following it up, their next single “The Buzz” with Timmy Trumpet topped the charts of Beatport!

Since then, New World Sound relocated to LA where they’ve released a number of successful records. As well as playing at the biggest festivals all over the world including Tomorrowland, Electric Zoo, and EDC.

New World Sound are most known for their fourth single “Flute”. A song that completely paved the way for the pair’s future success!


Joel Fletcher


Joel Fletcher is a Melbourne-based Australian DJ who first garnered attention with his 2013 remix of the Savage song “Swing”. As a result, Fletcher charted in both Australia and New Zealand; a feat that led him to go on to support Avicci during his Australian headline tour. Swing ended up going 4 times platinum, while his next single Loco also made it to gold status. Along with Will Sparks, he helped push the Melbourne Sound genre to the masses in its early stages

Today, Joel Fletcher continues to release music and tour the country. Although none of his recent works come close to the notoriety he got from his breakout remix to Swing.

Grant Smillie


Garnering most of his attention during the early 2000s, Grant Smillie was one of Australia’s original house DJs and made up one half of the music group TV Rock. Gaining momentum as a DJ, Smillie became one of Australia’s most sought-out DJs. His music industry success led him to pursue a 10-year stint as a radio presenter on Australias Nova M. Since then, Grant Smillie has turned his attention to hospitality. Most notably, he was a Co-Founder of the popular Melbourne bar Ponyfish Island. As well as relocating to Hollywood where he now operates a successful restaurant.

Another Australian DJ Duo, Feenixpawl have well and truly earnt their stripes in electronic music. Winning Grammy Awards, performing regular world tours, and playing at the biggest venues and festivals across the globe. Including Digital Dreams, Electric Zoo, Stereosonic, and Tomorroworld.

Breaking onto the scene with the success of their single “In My Mind”, Feenixpawl established themselves as one of Australia’s finest. Ivan Gough

Prominent during the 1990s, Ivan Gough made his name as a DJ, producer, and as one half of TV Rock alongside Grant Smillie. His first-ever release was a remix of Pendulums “I Need You”, and became an instant club anthem. Most notably, Ivan Gough has had 11 tracks make number 1 on the ARIA Club Charts. A number that’s more than any Australian artist. What’s more, the TV Rock single “Flaunt It” holds the record for the longest-running Australian track in the ARIA top 10 ever!
