Best Party Speakers for Backyard and House Parties: A DJ City Guide (2026)
The best party speakers can fill a noisy backyard with music, keep the bass alive when the crowd turns up and run long enough to make it through the night.
Picture this: It’s Boxing Day, the skies are blue, the snags are on and the neighbours have already rocked up with an esky. But the music is coming out of a phone speaker sitting in a salad bowl. Sound familiar? Chances are you’ve been meaning to sort out a proper party speaker for a couple of summers now.
First thing you should know: DJ City doesn’t currently stock JBL PartyBox models. We do stock a large range of JBL PA speakers for DJs, bands, venues and events, but they sit in a different category from the battery-powered PartyBox range discussed here. For home parties, our main picks come from Fenton and Vonyx. They cost less than the big household party-speaker brands and tend to include the extras you’d otherwise pay for separately: microphones, battery power, wheels and lights. This guide works out which speaker you actually need for your party and what the full basket costs once you add a mic or stands.
Quick answer: Our best party speaker overall is the Fenton FT212LED-MK2. Its two 12″ woofers, battery or mains power, wireless mic, wheels and lights make it the easiest recommendation for most house parties. The FT8LED-MK2 is our budget winner, the Pulse65 wins for smaller karaoke parties, the PK-SPLASHMIC is our poolside pick, and the VSA150S pair is the best setup here for a large backyard.
Disclosure: DJ City sells the products in our main recommendations. The separate honourable-mentions section covers well-reviewed speakers that we do not currently stock. Recommendations are based on documented product features, current independent comparison lists and the inclusions shown on product pages. Prices and stock can change during the Christmas period, so check the product links for today’s details.
How we chose: We compared the party speakers DJ City currently sells by their documented output, power source, microphone inclusions, portability, weather protection and complete setup cost. These recommendations are based on published product specifications and suitability for common Australian party setups. They are not the result of comparative listening tests.

What sort of party speaker do you actually need?
Before we talk wattage, think about where you’re going to use the speaker, whether a power point is available nearby and whether you need a microphone for speeches or karaoke. Size and weight matter too, especially if you’ll be moving it between the house, backyard and car.
If it’s a balcony or a small courtyard, an 8″ speaker on battery is more than enough. Once you’ve got 30 people in a backyard and want them dancing, you want 12″ woofers or a proper stereo pair. And if the pool is involved, get something with a splash rating. Trust me, someone will definitely jump in next to it!
How much bass and power do you need?
Forget the biggest watt number on the box. Peak watts are mostly a sales figure. Woofer size and speaker placement have a much bigger effect on the bass you hear than a peak-watt number on its own. An 8″ speaker is enough for a BBQ or a lounge. Once people are dancing in a backyard, you want 12″ woofers or a proper stereo pair. I’d take two decent speakers spread across the yard over one mega-watt monster shoved in a corner every time. You’ll get more coverage, fewer dead spots and fewer people shouting over the quiet end of the lawn.
One more thing. These are consumer-grade party speakers for home. If you’re a muso or gigging DJ, you’re in portable PA territory, which is a different conversation.
Party speakers by setting and basket cost
Best budget party speaker: Fenton FT8LED-MK2
For a small BBQ or a kid’s birthday, the Fenton FT8LED-MK2 is about as cheap as a real party speaker gets. 8″ woofer, a trolley handle, a rechargeable battery and a colour-changing LED ring around the woofer.
It also comes with a wired mic, with its own volume and echo controls. Fine for speeches and a couple of songs. Bluetooth, USB, MicroSD and a 3.5mm AUX input cover the music side.
Check before buying: The mic is wired, so whoever’s singing needs to stay near the speaker. Its size is better suited to background music for a small group.
Best compact party speaker with a wireless mic: Fenton Pulse65
Got a family that can’t get through the holidays without a singalong karaoke sesh? The Fenton Pulse65 is a party speaker with a wireless UHF mic in the box, adjustable echo, a remote and a groove on top to hold your phone or tablet for the lyrics.
It runs on a rechargeable battery and has an IPX4 splashproof housing, so carrying it from the lounge to the patio is no drama. 60W RMS through a 6.5″ woofer and 2″ tweeter.
Check before buying: It’s built for lounge rooms and patios. If you want the whole backyard dancing, step up to the bigger picks below.

Best party speaker for pool areas: Vonyx PK-SPLASHMIC
This is the one we’d grab for a poolside sesh, hens or bachelor party. The Vonyx PK-SPLASHMIC pairs the IPX5 Vonyx SPLASH300 trolley speaker with the WM552 dual wireless UHF mic set. With two mics, you can run duets, or have the best man and the MC give their speech without the hassle of passing the mic around.
Vonyx quotes up to 10 hours on the battery, depending on how hard you push it. Bluetooth, USB, AUX and RCA inputs, a bass boost, and an LED ring you can switch off when the speeches start.
Check before buying: Already sorted for mics? The SPLASH300 on its own is cheaper. Either way, IPX5 handles splashes and rain, so please don’t chuck it in the pool!
Best all-round party speaker for bigger gatherings: Fenton FT212LED-MK2
For a bigger house party, the Fenton FT212LED-MK2 runs two 12″ LED woofers at a 1400W max rating, with wheels and a battery or mains option.
It includes a UHF wireless mic with talkover, plus a guitar input, bass and treble controls and a stereo RCA line out. For the price, that’s a lot of built-in value.
Check before buying: It’s a pretty big unit, so it’s worth checking that it fits your car boot before the day of the party.
Want it singalong-first with lights and a phone groove? The Fenton Pulse160 is the karaoke-leaning alternative.
Best party speaker setup for a large backyard: Vonyx VSA150S
A 21st birthday in the backyard, marquee up, with 60 mates RSVP’d? One box simply isn’t going to cut it. The Vonyx VSA150S is a 15″ stereo pair, one active and one passive, linked with the included 4m NL2 cable. 1000W max, Bluetooth, a USB player, a remote and inputs for mic, guitar and line.
Get them up on a pair of Vonyx LS08A speaker stands so the sound carries over people’s heads. That takes the full basket to around $760.
Check before buying: There’s no battery and no mic included, so you’ll need a power point (or a good extension lead) and your own mic.

What other party speakers are getting recommended in 2026?
DJ City doesn’t currently stock the four speakers below, but it’d be a bit rude to pretend they aren’t part of the conversation. Each one has appeared in a current 2026 party-speaker guide from an established publisher. They also give you a useful reference point for what you gain when you spend well beyond the Fenton and Vonyx options above.
JBL PartyBox Stage 320: the premium all-rounder
RTINGS currently places the JBL PartyBox Stage 320 in its upper mid-range party-speaker position, noting that it has enough volume and bass for most parties plus wheels that make it easier to move (RTINGS).
JBL lists up to 18 hours of play time, a telescopic handle, wheels, splash resistance, dual microphone and guitar inputs, an app and Auracast speaker linking (JBL). If you want the familiar PartyBox ecosystem and light show, this is the clearest premium benchmark for the speakers above.
Marshall Bromley 450: the balanced-sound pick
RTINGS chose the Marshall Bromley 450 as its best speaker for parties, praising its balanced sound, strong bass, high maximum volume and consistent coverage around the speaker (RTINGS). Rolling Stone also included it as its design pick (Rolling Stone).
Pick the Bromley 450 if balanced sound and wide coverage are your priorities. It’s the strongest sound-quality choice in this honourable-mentions list.
SOUNDBOKS Mix: the loud, rugged one
Rolling Stone picked the SOUNDBOKS Mix for bass (Rolling Stone), while RTINGS lists it as a notable alternative for its high maximum volume (RTINGS). SOUNDBOKS specifies a 121dB maximum output, a 9.7kg weight and up to 40 hours of battery life at mid-volume (SOUNDBOKS).
It skips the built-in lights and microphone connections found on many party speakers, so it makes the most sense when loud music, durability and battery life come first.
Soundcore Boom 2 Plus: the easier one to carry
TechRadar currently lists the Soundcore Boom 2 Plus as its best overall party speaker (TechRadar), and Rolling Stone calls it the most portable of its picks (Rolling Stone). Soundcore lists a weight of about 3.8kg, IPX7 water resistance, up to 20 hours of battery life and 140W maximum output (Soundcore).
Have a look at this one if you care more about carrying the speaker to the park or beach than running a microphone-led karaoke night.
Availability note: DJ City did not stock these four models when this guide was checked on 4 November 2026.
When a party speaker isn’t the answer
If your heart is set on a JBL PartyBox, buy the PartyBox. DJ City doesn’t currently stock that range, and we won’t pretend a different product is the same thing. We do carry a large range of JBL PA speakers for DJs, performers, venues and event systems. For a home party setup, we’d put the money into a Fenton or Vonyx package that gives you the speaker, mic, battery, wheels or stands you actually need.
And if you’re gigging, busking or running a band, a household party speaker will get worked too hard. Have a look at a proper portable PA instead. Check out our ultimate guide to buying powered speakers.

Party speaker questions
What speakers are best for parties?
The Fenton FT212LED-MK2 is our best party speaker overall. Its two 12″ woofers, rechargeable battery, wheels, lights and included wireless mic make it the strongest all-rounder in this guide. Buy the Pulse65 for a small lounge-room party or the VSA150S pair for a large backyard.
Does DJ City sell JBL PartyBox speakers?
DJ City doesn’t currently stock JBL PartyBox models. We do stock a large range of JBL PA speakers for DJs, bands, venues and events. If you specifically want a battery-powered PartyBox with the JBL app and speaker-linking ecosystem, you’ll need to buy that model elsewhere. For a more affordable home-party setup with a battery, mic, wheels and lights, start with DJ City’s Fenton and Vonyx party speakers.
What’s the best party speaker with a microphone?
The Vonyx PK-SPLASHMIC is our winner because it includes two wireless UHF microphones, runs on battery and has an IPX5 splash rating. Choose the cheaper Fenton Pulse65 if you only need one mic for a smaller room or patio.
Which party speaker is best for a backyard?
The Vonyx VSA150S pair is our backyard winner when mains power is available. Two speakers spread the music more evenly across the yard than one box in a corner. No convenient power point? Buy the battery-powered Fenton FT212LED-MK2.
Can I leave a party speaker out in the rain?
No. An IPX4 or IPX5 rating gives you some protection from splashes and light rain, but it isn’t permission to leave the speaker outside overnight. Bring it inside when the party finishes, and never put it in or beside the pool where it could fall into the water.
How long do the batteries last?
Assume the advertised runtime is a best-case figure because high volume and lighting can shorten it. Vonyx quotes up to 10 hours for the SPLASH300. For an important party, fully charge the speaker the night before and keep its charger or mains cable nearby.
