Samson CL8A
The Samson CL8A gives you a large-diaphragm, multi-pattern condenser microphone that delivers a balanced, detailed sound. Sporting a custom-tuned condenser capsule, rock-solid construction, and exceptional electronics; the CL8A is sure to become the microphone of choice for your home, project, or professional studio. Offering an ideal solution for recording expressive vocalists, guitars, flutes, and upright bass. Furthermore, expanding your miking options, the CL8A gives you the choice of three pickup patterns.
Housed inside the CL8A capsule you’ll find a dual 1.1″ gold-sputtered, 4-micron thick diaphragm that gives you a lush and balanced sound. Unlocking a number of selectable pickup patterns, the CL8A will give you superior results no matter what the situation.
Selectable Polar Patterns
Using the omnidirectional pattern, your CL8A will pick up your sound equally well in all directions. There’s also no off-axis coloration; making it perfect for capturing ensemble players and vocalists using a single mic.
Additionally, the cardioid pickup pattern rejects sound from the rear and sides of the microphone. Providing you with excellent coverage of what’s sitting directly in front of your mic. So it’s the perfect option for capturing expressive solo vocalists, or instruments.
Then you’ve also got the Figure 8 pattern that offers excellent response both in front of and behind the microphone. So it’s the go-to choice if you’re recording multiple performers in smaller groups or pairs. Alternatively, you can place the mic sideways over a snare which then picks up the kit ambiance, minimizing the snare in the side-field.
There’s also a selectable two-pole high-pass filter at 100Hz that removes unwanted low-frequencies from your recordings such as rumble and wind noise. While its robust capsule and electronics are able to withstand enormous sound pressure levels up to 147dB. Allowing you to capture powerful low-frequency content without distortion. The CL8A also includes a 10dB attenuation pad, used to prevent overloading the onboard preamp by lowering the sensitivity of the preamp circuit. As a result, it’s an ideal feature for close-miking loud sound sources with high transient sounds such as drums, cymbals, and brass instruments.
Finally, inside its durable die-cast body, an internal shock-mount provides protection for capsule, and isolation from vibration.
