Neumann KM 184
The Neumann KM 184 brings you a state of the art, small-diaphragm condenser microphone; featuring a uniform, frequency-independent cardioid polar pattern. Offering a very natural, transparent sound, with very low self-noise and high SPL capacity; making the KM 184 a worldwide standard for stage and studio, whether you’re performing classical piano or heavy metal drums.
FAITHFUL
While many microphones have been designed to add a sonic imprint of their own; there are many applications requiring a faithful reproduction of audio, without adding anything extra. Therefore, Neumann KM 184 is a perfect option. Neumanns Series 180 offers three microphones for different pickup patterns: KM 183 (Omni), KM 184 (cardioid), and KM 185 (hyper-cardioid), covering most studio and stage applications. As well as being more cost-effective due to their non-modular design.
CARDIOID
Not only does the KM 184 boast attractive pricing, you’ll enjoy state-of-the-art Neumann engineering. With its frequency-independent cardioid pattern, the rejection of rearward sound (180°) is excellent even at low frequencies. You also won’t experience any sound colouration over a wide pickup angle – crucial in multi-microphone setups for precise stereo and surround imaging. KM 184 gives you a smooth and linear frequency response, with a slight treble lift around 9 kHz for added brilliance. While its innovative, and transformerless head amplifier offers a wide dynamic range of 125 dB – carefully designed to maintain the capsule’s sonic integrity. At only 13 dB-A, the KM184 omits very low self-noise. As well as handling high sound pressure levels of up to 138 dB without distortion. Drive long cables of up to 300m without loss of transmission thanks to the low impedance output stage.
APPLICATIONS
Overall, the Neumann KM 184 is a universal microphone for both studio and stage applications. With its transparent sound, the KM184 is the perfect choice for acoustic instruments such as; piano, percussion, drums, acoustic guitar, upright bass, violin, cello, and woodwinds. And, you can use your KM 184 for both soloists and ensembles, thanks to its superior off-axis behaviour. Also great if you’re recording classical vocals where authenticity is paramount. At such a small and compact size, KM 184 is visually unobtrusive, making it suited for TV and radio applications.
