sE Electronics sE VKICK Kick Drum Mic
sE Electronics sE VKICK Kick Drum Mic is designed for use with kick drums, floor toms, tympani, or other large drums where low-frequency energy is critical and SPLs are high. The sE Electronics V Kick is a dynamic microphone with a supercardioid polar pattern and is the most compact and versatile bass drum microphone in its class, a solid and exciting addition to the sE Electronics range. It’s intended to be quite versatile, with four different tonalities, that are shaped by two switches mounted on the rear of the mic. One switch controls the frequency content of the midrange, while the other changes the high-frequency capture of the V Kick.
Thanks to these switches, you can secure a rounded midrange with a softer high end, a scooped midrange with a defined high end—or the complete opposite: A scooped midrange with a softer high-end, or a round midrange with a softer high end. This allows you to use the mic with all sorts of styles of kick drum, from big-band jazz to aggressive metal. The same is true for basses. You can tailor this mic for something that complements a round, vintage Ampeg tone, or a more modern back-pickup style.
These rear-mounted switches help with live-sound functionality. With different bands switching their instruments between sets, this mic can be of service in keeping changeover time to a minimum in club venues.
At the heart of the V Kick is its DMC7 SB capsule, which utilizes an aluminum voice coil for a transient-rich sound and a bottom end extending low enough to record the fundamental frequencies of kick drums and basses. Its supercardioid pickup pattern ensures little bleed, helping you isolate the sound-source from other drums or cymbals. The capsule is suspended inside the mic to keep it decoupled from mechanical vibration, shocks, jolts, and other issues.
The V Kick’s integrated swivel joint allows flexibility of placement, and its purpose-built capsule delivers a sonic character specifically tailored for bass drums. The mic’s all-metal housing is rugged, making the mic suitable for live use on the road. A gold-plated XLR connector helps to provide a reliable signal connection. With a windscreen built into the mic, it’s already internally protected against winds, plosives, and extraneous noise. A black windscreen and a knurled nut for third-party mounting kits are included
