What audio interface is best for a home studio?

The best audio interface depends on what you plan to record. For solo vocals, guitar, podcasts or basic music production, a compact interface with one or two inputs may be sufficient. Look for suitable microphone and instrument inputs, 48V phantom power if you use a condenser microphone, a headphone output and direct monitoring. If you want to record several microphones or instruments simultaneously, choose an interface with more inputs rather than relying on the total number of devices you may eventually own.
How many inputs do I need on an audio interface?

It depends on how many sound sources you need to record at the same time.
